On November 20th, 2025, a 12-member delegation from Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP), led by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trung Kien – Rector, paid a visit and held a working session with the University of Sydney at the Westmead Health Precinct (NSW, Australia). The visit was jointly organized to strengthen international academic cooperation, promote scientific research initiatives, facilitate student–faculty exchanges, and advance the development of high-quality healthcare human resources.

At the beginning of the working session, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Prof. Nicholas McKay, Associate Director for Research Enterprise and Partnerships, Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH) at the University of Sydney. He provided an overview of the university’s training strategies, research priorities, and professional development initiatives in the field of medicine. The two sides discussed potential areas of collaboration, respective academic strengths, and opportunities for developing joint programs between the institutions.

Following the introductory session, the delegation visited the Westmead Health Precinct. As one of the largest medical and research hubs in New South Wales, Westmead Health Precinct represents a highly professional operational model integrating hospitals, research institutes, and clinical trial programs. In particular, the delegation’s exploration of infectious diseases and the visit to the NSW Biocontainment Centre provided direct exposure to Australia’s advanced biosafety systems and cutting-edge research procedures.

The afternoon program began with a tour of the modern Clinical Simulation Suites. This professionally designed training environment includes simulated patient rooms, emergency rooms, skills laboratories, and VR-supported simulation technologies.

After visiting the Simulation Center, the delegation continued working directly with project teams and explored the operations of the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre, an institution that plays a pivotal role in Australia's biomedical research ecosystem.

The delegates engaged in in-depth discussions, raising a number of specialized questions that centered on ongoing scientific research projects. They also proposed various opportunities for collaboration in academic development and human resource training between the two institutions.

The delegation met and discussed collaboration with representatives of the University of Sydney at the Westmead Health Precinct, focusing on potential cooperation in education, scientific research, and the training of healthcare professionals.

 

As part of the working program, the delegation met with an alumnus of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, who is currently pursuing postgraduate studies at the University of Sydney. The University highly appreciates her efforts and affirms its commitment to continuing to support and expand academic collaboration programs, scholarships, and postgraduate exchange opportunities.
