A Young Scholar from Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Participates in the 6th Global Vietnamese Young Intellectuals Forum 2025

The sixth Global Forum of Young Vietnamese Intellectuals convened recently in Hanoi under the theme “Global Young Vietnamese Intellectuals Join Forces with the Nation to Enter a New Era.” This annual event, organized by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Vietnam Youth Federation, was co-hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Global Vietnamese Young Intellectuals Network, and VinUniversity. Recognized as a flagship gathering within Vietnam’s scientific and intellectual community, the forum’s opening ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Mr. Lai Xuan Lam, Deputy Secretary of the Government’s Party Committee; Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam, Secretary of the Central Youth Union and President of the Vietnam Youth Federation.

Since its establishment in 2018, the Global Forum of Young Vietnamese Intellectuals has convened five previous editions, engaging thousands of delegates from over 30 countries. The 2025 forum hosts 201 official delegates, young Vietnamese scholars, researchers, and professionals based in more than 20 countries and territories, alongside participation from over 300 online attendees. These figures highlight the forum’s expanding scope and increasing prominence within the global Vietnamese intellectual community.

Upon receiving an invitation from the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nguyen Phuoc Lap, a Lecturer at the Department of Biology and Genetics, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, participated in the forum as an official delegate. In a meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang, Dr. Lap acknowledged the Party and State’s policies aimed at attracting overseas young intellectuals to return and contribute to national development. He noted that these initiatives were a primary factor in his decision to return to Vietnam and assume his current position after earning a PhD in Biomedicine from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang highlighted Vietnam’s ongoing period of profound transformation and advancing international integration, noting the critical importance of mobilizing all resources, particularly intellectual capital. She emphasized the central contribution of Vietnamese experts and intellectuals, both domestically and abroad, to this process. International observers have characterized the current phase as a “second revolution,” distinguished by comprehensive reforms and the strategic application of science and technology to accelerate progress in the economy, education, and innovation.

The 2025 forum addressed key thematic areas, including the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies to enhance productivity, particularly in healthcare, promotion of innovation-driven startups aligned with green economic growth, strategies for sustainable adaptation to global challenges, and the development of smart infrastructure and sustainable urban environments. The outcomes of these discussions, including proposed initiatives and policy recommendations, will be consolidated and submitted to relevant authorities to inform national policy. Representing the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam emphasized that supporting young intellectuals is regarded as both a core political mandate and a strategic investment in Vietnam’s long-term development.
