CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY “ENHANCE RESOURCES TO MEET DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES IN THE NEW PERIOD”

On September 21th, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy held a Conference to summarize the 2023-2024 academic year, deploy key tasks and training plans for the 2024-2025 academic year. The Conference reviewed the outstanding achievements of the past academic year and set out strategic directions for the new academic year, with the theme “Enhance resources to meet development strategies in the new period”.
Attending the conference were Assoc. Prof. NGUYEN Minh Phuong, Party Committee Secretary, Chairwoman of the University Council; Prof. NGUYEN Trung Kien, Rector; Assoc. Prof. NGUYEN Van Lam, Vice Rector; Assoc. Prof. TRAN Viet An, Vice Rector; Assoc. Prof. NGUYEN Thanh Tan, Vice Rector; representatives of leaders of Faculties, Units, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Vinh Long General Hospital and other hospitals in Can Tho.
At the conference, Assoc. Prof. NGUYEN Thanh Tan, Vice Rector presented a summary report for the 2023-2024 school year, emphasizing positive results in administration, expertise and learner support activities. In the 2023-2024 school year, the University has promoted legal work, consolidated the organizational structure, improved the quality of undergraduate and postgraduate training, and promoted scientific research and technology transfer.

Regarding training, the University has completed the English-language medical training program, implemented the development of 10 integrated university training programs, and opened new training programs in Biomedical Engineering and Nutrition. Admissions are carried out to ensure quality, with 2.255 regular education targets and 380 continuing education targets. The University has also implemented many examination activities, testing and evaluating learning outcomes, and managing the question bank to improve the quality of education.
Scientific research was also a noteworthy aspect in the past academic year, with 223 research topics at all levels being conducted and accepted, exceeding 71.5% of the target. The University has also published 610 domestic scientific articles and 148 international articles, and published 18 issues of the Can Tho Medical and Pharmaceutical Journal.
In addition, the University has promoted activities to connect, serve the community and support learners. International cooperation activities have been expanded, with 11 ongoing projects and 02 new projects. The school has also welcomed 266 long-term international students and 97 short-term international students. The work of the Trade Union and Youth Union has also achieved many encouraging results, with activities to support learners, charity health check-ups, humanity blood donation, organizing culture and sports…
In particular, the university's achievements in ensuring educational quality are notable. The university has been recognized as meeting the quality standards of educational institutions in the second phase of the period 2024-2029, along with 7 standard master's training programs, including: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Dentistry, Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy, Preventive Medicine, Medical Laboratory Technology.
In 2024, the University is ranked 48th in Vietnam and 245th in Southeast Asia according to the Webometrics rankings in July 2024; ranked 77th among Vietnamese universities and 5th among public universities in the health sector according to the Vietnam rankings (VNUR); ranked 300th in Asia (UI Green metrics) and is the only health science university in Vietnam to participate in this ranking.
In the 2024-2025 academic year, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy has set goals to enhance teaching quality, scientific research, and learner support activities. Some of the key objectives include: developing and promulgating 10 integrated training programs, ensuring 100% acceptance of school-level curricula, organizing external assessments for 02 new postgraduate training programs, implementing a new curriculum framework, and strengthening curriculum assessments to meet societal demands.
The university will also prioritize scientific research in the fields of gene technology and health product development, promote technology transfer, and increase both the quantity and quality of scientific publications.
Regarding student affairs, the University will establish Alumni associations for each faculty, increase scholarship mobilization, organize activities to support students in achieving competency standards, and organize startup competitions and job fairs.
In terms of organization and human resources, the university will implement procedures for establishing centers, form a new board of directors, continue to review and plan for faculty development, and enhance training courses to improve the capacity of lecturers and administrators.
