On November 12th, 2018, representative of the Pasteur Institute (France) - Professor Marc Eloit had a meeting with representatives of Faculty of Medicine, Scientific Research and International Cooperation Office and representatives of the Department of Infection, Psychology, Neurology, Pathophysicology - Immunology and Genetic Biology.

Professor Marc Eloit discussed about the possibility of collaboration in the field of scientific research using Next Generation Sequencing technology (NGS), introduced ongoing projects and research results on insects and on humans. This shows that the NGS has the advantages to detect pathogens that routine diagnostic tests such as serology or PCR are negative.

Le Cong Hanh, PhD. (Infectious Diseases Department) proposed the idea of "known and unknown viral agents that may be encountered in patients with dengue-like syndrome". Prof. Marc agreed to discuss and develop into a research project in future.

Assoc.Prof. Tran Ngoc Dung and Dr. Duong Thi Loan  (Pathophysicology – Immunology Department) shared about difficulties in implementing NGS. Prof. Marc said he was willing to help with bioinformatics and gave support in the training of technicians in the process of sample and the provision of implementing protocols.

Dr. Nguyen Van Minh (Neurology Department) stated his interests in new and known viral agents that cause encephalitis. According to the example of his research in Paris, Prof. Marc mentioned brain biopsy and excessive costs for research.

Le Thi Cam Ly, PhD. (Parasitology Department) questioned the possibility of studying diseases caused by Toxoplasma.

After the seminar, Prof. Marc was introduced to the molecular biology laboratory of Pathophysicology – Immunology Department, had some questions about operation’s methods, relevant machines and practicing process in hospital.

The Pasteur Institute is a French private non-profit institution specialized in the study of biology, microbiology and vaccination. For more than a century, the Pasteur Institute has been at the forefront of the fight against infectious diseases and breakthrough discoveries to control dangerous diseases such as tetanus, diphtheria, tuberculosis, polio…. The Pasteur Institute is one of the world's leading research centers; with more than 100 research facilities and nearly 2700 employees, including about 500 permanent scientists and 600 scientists collaborating from 70 countries each year.
