Lượt xem: 592
Intending to improve and update several knowledge of electromyography, peripheral nerves and neuro-ophthalmic diseases, strengthen international cooperation, study and academic exchange about professional knowledge, the Department of Neurology and the Department of Physiology collaborated to successfully organize the University-Level Seminar Program and Continuing Training: “Electrical and clinical diagnosis of neuromuscular and neuro-ophthalmic diseases” for practitioners and doctors specializing in Neurology, Ophthalmology, Functional Exploration in and out of the Mekong Delta.
The seminar was held for 2 days: August
26-27, 2022 at 3D Hall, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP) sponsored
by Cong Vang
Medical Equipment Joint Stock Company.
Chairman: Ph.D. MD. LE Van Minh - Dean of the Faculty of
Medicine, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
Reporter: Prof. UMAPATHI– Professor of National University of Singapore (NUS).
More than 150 conferees are lecturers, postgraduate students at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, doctors, and medical staffs in and outside the Mekong Delta region. They were attended in 2 different ways: direct attendance or online attendance via Zoom.

Overview of the Seminar
Prof. UMAPATHI
examined the distal muscle strength of a patient suffering weakness in both
lower extremities
Prof. UMAPATHI
examined the extraocular muscles of a female patient with symptomatic diplopia
Prof. UMAPATHI
examined the Babinski reflex – a specific reflex characteristic of pyramidal
tract lesions.
Prof. UMAPATHI
examined upper extremity muscle strength in a patient with muscle atrophy and
weakness due to Hirayama disease
Prof. UMAPATHI instructed
conferees to
perform electromyography (EMG)
Prof. UMAPATHI examined cranial nerves IX and XII.
Prof. UMAPATHI
examined the “claw hand” sign and assessed ulnar nerve lesions in the palm
The organizers delivered flowers and took photos with Prof. UMAPATHI, sponsors, experts, and conferees
After 2 days of diligent dedication, the University-Level Scientific Seminar with the participation of a foreign reporter - for the first time - on electromyography, peripheral nerves and neuro-ophthalmic diseases that were organized by the CTUMP’s Department of Neurology and the Department of Biology, has been amazingly successful. The seminar brought a useful scientific space for practitioners and medical staffs to improve their knowledge and skills in the field of electrical and clinical neurology diagnosis. The seminar is also a huge opportunity for practitioners and doctors specializing in Neurology, Ophthalmology, Functional Exploration in and outside the Mekong Delta region to understand and absorb the principles, practice of recording and reading electromyography results, examining, identifying, analyzing and assessing neurological damage in clinical practice, especially on rare diseases or genetic nature diseases.
