Skills Training Unit

In 1995, the Skills Training Unit (Skillslab) was established and began operating in 1996; the establishment of Skillslab was accompanied and supported by both Maastricht University - Holland and the project “Medical Skill Training Enforcement in 8 Facilities in Vietnam” (2004-2009). The Unit's function is preparing medical skills for students and trains these skills to an appropriate level before they finally practice on real patients.

The Skillslab is equipped with a group of experienced lecturers who were trained in Holland. They were also  trained in Medicine  and are guaranteed to educate students as passionate as they can.

The Skillslab’s program consisted of 2 modules, including 47 skills, which are attached to the primary study program. Furthermore, the program also gets checked and modified annually in order to match student's needs.

The students train and master their communicating, examining and operating skills in simulated environment. They are given model patients to practice basic communication, exploit medical history, persuade patients to follow their treatment, inform bad news to patients and their families.

Moreover, students are trained to examine several organ systems following standard examine procedure. Last but not least, they also are able to practice on patient models or each other’s about basic nursing skills, administration to basic routes, bandaging, cardiac pulmonary resuscitation, endotracheal intubation, first aid of fractures and broken bones, etc.

Besides primary learning periods in lecture halls, self-studying activities - including organizing and managing these activities are also effectively deployed. Aside from that, many forms of assessment are used not only to detect student’s mistakes and correct them immediately but further complete their skills, these forms including formative assessment and summative assessment.

The Skillslab Unit is not only an educating unit but also a researching unit with many science research articles. They also contribute innovative ideas to improve administration and education management while actively joins in international cooperation activities.

For many years, the Skillslab Unit is known as an excellent working unit. As a result,  we are awarded with many honorable commendations from the president as well as the minister of Health. Individually, many  outstanding members of this unit are also honorably awarded.
